What do YOU want to see in a new art magazine?

It never rains but it pours: in the opening days of The Age Melbourne Fringe Festival, my boss has asked me to take on a new project: the creation of a brand new fortnightly GLBT arts, lifestyle and entertainment magazine. I've agreed.

So, from Monday I'll be stepping across from being editor of MCV to editing this new, as-of-yet unnamed fortnightly magazine.

So, oh denizens of the arts worlds, what I want to ask you is:

  • What do you want to see in a new arts and culture magazine, which, though stylishly designed and catering for GLBT readers, is also envisaged as having a much wider readership?
  • And do you have any great ideas for a name?
I'm all ears! Or eyes! Or something!

How about "glib"?

I'd find a 'history of queer arts in Australia' section interesting.

I'm really interested in local arts, local crafts and local artists (bet you hadn't guessed that huh...) Maybe a profile on these guys, or profiles on shops that sell local arts and crafts stuff? I think it's really important to foster and focus on that sort of thing. And who wouldn't buy local if they only knew enough about it?

Things it should have

1. Good writing
2. Good critical writing
3. An advisory board of artists (preferably mid career who exhibit regularly - not at their own gallery), curators from public galleries, someone from the commercial art world

Although not to worry so much, they hardly publish it ... but still .. hahehhah .. will be funny if they charge you copyright for using the name
